In the innermost circle are the 4 humours of man, corresponding to the elements. To the central, black circle corresponds the outermost macrocosmic boundary of goat-footed Chronos-Saturn, who unrolls the great universal year. The Swastika-like sign on his hourglass represents the polar forces that govern the whole universe: systole-sulpher and diastole-mercury.
